One of the more protracted transfers of the summer, that of Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric to Real Madrid, may be nearing consummation.
Spurs manager Andre
Villas-Boas said Thursday he believes the deal for Modric, who expressed his desire to leave in May, will be completed in the next few days. it has been hung up by Spurs chairman Daniel
Levy's demands for a fee of around $63 million.
Villas-Boas wants the deal done so he can spend on new signings. Asked if there was any progress in negotiations between the
clubs, Villas-Boas said: "The chairman has told me the talks are ongoing. They are making some progress and the situation can be solved within the next couple days."
Tottenham bolstered its
attack by signing striker Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City this week. Villas-Boas downplayed a move for Leandro Damaio of Internacional, who played for Brazil
at the Olympic Games.
