Tymrak's golden goal sinks No. 1 Blue Devils

[FLORIDA-DUKE] All-American Erika Tymrak's goal five minutes into overtime gave No. 20 Florida a 3-2 win over No. 1 Duke Sunday afternoon in the second day of action at the Carolina Nike Classic. The goal completed the Gators' comeback from two goals down in the first half.

The game marked third consecutive time Florida and Duke were tied after 90 minutes, only this time there was a winner in overtime. They played to a 1-1 tie in the regular season and 0-0 tie in the second round of the NCAA Tournament (Duke won the shootout).

Tymrak played a give-and-go with fellow senior McKenzie Barney to score her first goal of the season.

“I looked up and saw McKenzie wide open. I gave her the ball and then made a run in the box,” Tymrak said. “She put it literally right on my foot. I don’t really remember much of it because I was so in the moment. I kicked it and it might have deflected off of someone, but it went in.”

Florida trailed by two goals after 29 minutes before Jillian Graff cut the deficit in the 39th minute. An own goal tied the score in the 64th minute.

"I think you have to give the University of Florida a lot of credit," said Duke coach Robbie Church.  "They were down two goals as we started off great, but they never gave up.  The goal at the end of the half was a huge goal for them to cut the lead to 2-1.  That gave them momentum there.  I was disappointed with how we responded in the second half a little bit. We had a chance to stop, regroup and do a few things."
