Terrapins avenge NCAA Tournament loss with big win

[MARYLAND-LOUISVILLE] No. 3 Maryland avenged its loss to Louisville in the 2011 NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 victory over the No. 16 Cardinals on Sunday. Freshman Schillo Tshuma, Dan Metzger and John Stertzer all scored for Maryland. Sunny Jane added a pair of assists.

Tshuma, a freshman from Zimbabwe via Virginia's Episcopal High School, needed only nine minutes to score his first goal for the Terps.

Metzger doubled Maryland's advantage in the 30th minute with a beautiful volleyed goal created by Jake Pace's flick-on header in the box.

Stertzer sealed the game for Maryland late with a short-range effort off Jane's second assist of the game.

Louisville defeated the Terps, 4-2, in the third round of last year's NCAA tournament but was unable to break down the Maryland defense.

"It's a great first win," Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski said. " I thought our team showed a tremendous amount of grit tonight against a very, very good Louisville team. I thought we really worked hard and stayed connected throughout the game. Obviously we had some quality finishes tonight. We had contributions from everyone."
