[UNDER-20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP] Germany remains the team to beat at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup. After their 3-0 rout of the USA in their final groupmatch, the defending champions needed only 20 minutes to put three goals past Norway and went on to win, 4-0, for their 10th straight win at the U-20 tournament. Germany will meet host Japan in abattle of U-20 giants on Tuesday in Tokyo.
FFC Frankfurt’s Dzsenifer Marozsan set up Lena Lotzen for twogoals, and Melanie Leupolz took advantage of an error by goalie Nora Gjoen to score at the far post for the thirdgoal.
Marozsan set up Lotzen again to put Germany ahead 3-0 in the 20th minute.
Gjoen made amends for her blunder to stop Marozsan, first on a save late in the first half andthen on Marozsan’s penalty kick midway through the second half.
But Norway’s troubles continued as its best player, Caroline Hansen, was sent off for a clumsy kung-fu kick in the face ofgoalkeeper Laura Benkart.
Marozsan then showed why she is Germany’s great young hope with a third assist on LuisaWensing‘s goal in the 85th minute.
Japan’s match drew a crowd of almost 25,000 for its 3-1 win over South Korea in Tokyo.
HanaeShibata scored twice for Japan and Yoko Tanaka added a third goal. Jeoun Eunha had her fourth goal of the tournament for South Korea. All four goals werescored in the first 37 minutes.
