[USA-NORTH KOREA] A flair for late dramatics isn’t the exclusive domain of the U.S. women’s national team. Stanford sophomore Chioma Ubogagu scored in the 98th minute to give the USA a 2-1 win over North Korea in the quarterfinals of the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan. The win set up a date with Nigeria’sFalconets Tuesday in Tokyo. The Falconets had beaten the USA in a shootout in the 2010 quarterfinals, sending it home before the final four for the first time.

North Carolina’s Crystal Dunn set up Ubogagu’s goal with the cross from the right as Ubogagu lost Korea DPR defender Pong Son Hwa with her run.North Korea goalkeeper O Chang Ran managed to get a right glove on Ubogagu’s header, but the ball trickled over the goal line and gave the USA a 2-1 lead.

Entering Friday’s quarterfinal match, Maya Hayes had been the only U.S. player to score with four goals. (The fifth U.S. goal was an own goal scored byGhana’s Linda Addai.)

After a scoreless first half against a North Korea team featuring 10 members of its 2012 Olympic team, midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo put the USA ahead in the 52nd minute.

The daughter of former U.S. international AngeloDiBernardo, DiBernardo fired a shot from more than 25 yards out that whizzed past O into the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

But North Korea equalized in the 75th minutewhen Kim Su Gyong found space in the middle of the box and took a left-footed shot that hit the upper right corner past USA goalkeeper Bryane Heaberlin.
