[MARYLAND-UCLA] Reed Williams scored two goals in the first 14 minutes and freshman goalkeeper Juan Cervantes made five saves in his first start in place of injured Earl Edwards as No. 14 UCLA earned a 2-2 draw on the road at No. 3 Marylandbefore 6,562 fans.

The Bruins were outshot, 22-8 for the night but got on the board in the eighth minute when Ryan Hollingshead headed the balldown nicely to Williams, who scored near post for his first goal of the year.

But just 20 seconds later, Patrick Mullins crossed the ball to themiddle past a diving Cervantes to Dan Metzger, who chipped it into the empty net for the equalizer.

UCLA would answer again, though, in the 14thminute when Williams one-timed Fernando Monge‘s pass.

In the 68th minute, Maryland’s John Stertzerequalized from the penalty spot after Schillo Tshuma was taken down in the box.

Cervantes came up with the save of the night in the 93rdminute, reaching out and knocking Stertzer’s shot away to preserve the tie.

“That was a very good team we played tonight,” Maryland coach SashoCirovski said. “We battled back, played a lot of guys, and a lot of guys came in and helped us. I challenged the guys at halftime and they came through. We deserved better than a tie with oureffort and quality in the second half but we play these games at this time of the year so we can learn something about ourselves.”
