Turkey is one of the few European countries where the transfer window has not yet closed, and Fenerbahce struck it big with the signing of Chelsea midfielder Raul
Meireles for $12.5 million on a four-year contract.
The Portuguese international said former Liverpool teammate Dirk Kuyt, who recently joined the Istanbul club, convinced him to make the move.
"For me it's all about work, work, work," said Meireles. "My goal is to win trophies here, I will do everything I can to try and make it happen. I can't wait to get started, Fenerbahce is as big a club as Chelsea, Liverpool and Porto. I had a great season playing at Liverpool with Kuyt, he told me about Fenerbahce and encouraged me to make the move."
The Turkish transfer window closes Wednesday night.
