Andy Carroll could be out for six weeks

The rough luck for striker Andy Carroll continues.

In his first game on loan for West Ham, he suffered a hamstring injury that will rule him out of England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldava and Ukraine as well as the Premier League schedule.

Carroll took a lot of criticism last season after being bought by Liverpool for a club-record $55.6 million and new manager Brendan Rodgers thought so little of him that a season-long loan to West Ham was approved. He fell awkardly midway through the second half of West Ham's defeat of Fulham last weekend, and scans revealed the injury could keep him out of action for six weeks.

Rodgers has been fending off pressure from fans upset that the team was unable to sign U.S. attacker Clint Dempsey, who instead went to Tottenham in a deadline-day deal. The decision to loan Carroll has left Liverpool short of forwards and the fans' mood wasn't improved when it lost at home to Arsenal on Sunday.
