Klinsmann: Bocanegra and Cherundolo are ready

[USA-JAMAICA: Countdown] Jurgen Klinsmann put to rest two questions about the USA's starting lineup Tuesday against Jamaica in Columbus, Ohio (TV: ESPN2, ESPN3.com, Galavision, live, 8 pm ET). He said captain Carlos Bocanegra, overlooked for the first match in Kingston after beginning the 2012-13 season with Rangers in the fourth level of Scottish soccer, will start in place of the suspended Clarence Goodson, and Steve Cherundolo, another veteran, will return at right back.

Klinsmann blamed Bocanegra's lack of rhythm and the finalization of his transfer on loan from Rangers to Racing Santander in Spain for his decision not start him in Kingston, where the USA lost, 2-1.

Goodson started alongside Geoff Cameron, who moved into the starting lineup after a solid game in the USA's 1-0 win over Mexico in August.

Cherundolo was sidelined with a calf injury but has been training in Columbus. Michael Parkhurst started in his place against the Reggae Boyz and had a decent game, but he is not the attacking threat that Cherundolo is.

A lack of flank play was one of the reasons given for the USA's poor game in Kingston.

"He totally understood our decision," Klinsmann said of the decision to not start Bocanegra on Friday. "It had to do with his last couple of weeks as well as with our Mexico game, where we tried out new things and we were very pleased with what we've seen in Mexico. But he is back in the team, Steve is back in the team, fortunately, so they are ready and very, very hungry for that game."

Bocanegra, too slow.Team Edu with Cameron, same as v. Mexico. It worked then, why wouldn't it now?

Hey Edu was responsible for that second Jamaican free kick, it was a terrible foul too close to the box... and he hasn't exactly been playing all that much either of late... transfered to Stoke City but has yet to see the field. The Problem though was playing THREE holding midfielders, three destroyers, that has to change and it is who we play in THE MIDFIELD that really matters tonight, I hope to see Joe Corona, and maybe Jose Torres rather than a return to seeing Kyle Beckerman paired with TWO other destroyers in a defensive shell with no flank skills... time to allow Danny Williams to actually PLAY as the defensive midfielder for a change... got to keep Beckerman out of this line up for sure!!... Still want to see Todd Dunivant in at left back. Bocanegra is past his best. Cameron and Dunivant would be good together. Edu is barely good enough for the bench right now. I would cancel Jones's passport! He is a liablity!!
