Cardinals hand Demon Deacons first loss

[LOUISVILLE-WAKE FOREST] After blowing a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes, Louisville came back to earn a 3-2 overtime victory over No. 17 Wake Forest on Tuesday night. Ryan Smith scored the game-winner in the 105th minute to hand the Demon Deacons their first loss of the season.

Freshman Marlon Hairston returned to the game during the second overtime period and set up the winner, gathering the ball and driving past two Wake defenders before sending the ball to the middle of the box for Smith.

Regulation was a tale of two halves as Louisville outshot Wake, 7-1, in the first 45 minutes and pushed ahead on goals from Greg Cochrane and Andrew Farrell, but Wake responded on goals by Sean Okoli and Anthony Arena after the interval when it held a 10-3 edge in shots.

Louisville is now 3-2-0 heading into Friday's game against Kentucky at Cardinal Park.
