Practice makes perfect for Bruins

[UCLA-PEPPERDINE] After struggling to score in a 1-1 tie with Loyola Marymount the week before that dropped it out of the top spot in the Soccer America Women's Top 25 rankings, No. 4 UCLA exploded for 11 goals at the UCLA Soccer Classic, following up on its 7-0 win over Princeton with a 4-0 win over neighbor Pepperdine Sunday night.

Senior Zakiya Bywaters scored in the first 10 minutes of each half for her team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the year, while freshman Taylor Smith recorded her third goal of the weekend, and sophomore Ally Courtnall earned her second of the year.

Two days earlier, UCLA struck early and often in the first half, scoring six goals -- two each from Smith and Bywaters and one apiece from Sam Mewis, just back from the Under-20 Women's World Cup, and Taylor Alderete.

"The biggest thing for me was just continuing to see the development of our girls in the things we've been working on in practice," said UCLA coach B.J. Snow. "With the 11 goals scored on the weekend, the emphasis has been on the execution of creating and finishing our opportunities, and that was much better this weekend, and that's the name of the game. I was very happy with both of those."

With the win, UCLA (7-0-1) increased its unbeaten streak to 16 games.
