[TAURO FC-REAL SALT LAKE] Alvaro Saborio scored on a penalty kick three minutes into stoppage, after injuring his
shoulder and being taken down, to give Real Salt Lake a 1-0 win at Panama's Tauro FC that kept its hopes of advancing in the Concacaf Champions League alive.
The win gives RSL six points,
tied with Costa Rica's Herediano, which has a game in hand. RSL will close out group play Oct. 23 against Herediano at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Young Tauro goalie Vladimir Villareal had been sensational all game but came way off his line to take down Saborio 15 yards from goal after Saborio broken free on a pass from Javier Morales. Saborio injured his right shoulder when he went down but did not show any pain until after converting his penalty.
It was the second time Saborio scored a
stoppage-time penalty to beat a Panamanian club in the Concacaf Champions League. The first occasion came in a 2-1 win over Arabe Unido in 2010.
