AC Milan’s troubles continued when it was held to a 0-0 tie at home by Belgian champion Anderlecht in the opening game of the UEFA Champions League. The San Siro was two-thirds empty, and the fansin the crowd of 28,000 who stayed until the end jeered the Rossoneri off the field.

“I think the team can get better — that is an important factor,” Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri. “We did create four good scoring chances.”

Whether Allegri will be around when Milan gets better remains to be seen. Italian media report thatAllegri’s job will be on the line when Milan travels to Udinese on Sunday. It has only three points in three Serie A games, having lost both home games.

Former Liverpool and Inter Milancoach Rafa Benitez is among the names mentioned as a possible successor for Allegri, though the most likely candidate to replace him would be longtime Milan assistant Mauro Tassotti.
