A day after Zlatan Ibrahimovic said Paris St. Germain could win the UEFA Champions League, the French club put on a championship performance, opening its2012-13 campaign with a 4-1 win over Dynamo Kiev.

Ibrahimovic, who has never won the Champions League in a career that has taken him to Inter Milan, Barcelona and AC Milan, had said”something amazing” was happening at PSG, which has invested heavily in recruits.

Ibra opened the scoring and was followed by center backs ThiagoSilva, another signing from AC Milan, and Alex, into the scorebook in the first half. The Swede was more modest in his postgame remarks.

“Wehave the quality and ability to play in the Champions League,” he said. “This was the first game for our new team and we hope to continue like this. Not everything can work perfectly from the startwhen you have so many players arriving in the summer, but we’ve played better in recent games and are getting more confident. … The 4-1 result doesn’t mean we played a bad team. Certainly, we madethem look bad today and we were the stronger team.”
