'Being: Liverpool' on Fox outdraws NBC soccer matches

By Paul Kennedy

“Being: Liverpool” Fox's behind-the-scenes documentary on English Premier League club Liverpool, got a 1.3 overnight rating for the debut episode that aired on Sunday during the network's NFL Sunday afternoon coverage.

That's more than the combined rating of MLS's Portland-Seattle debut game on NBC (0.4) and the USA-Australia women's game on NBC (0.5).

For the second year, Fox will use Sunday windows around its NFL coverage to give sports fans a taste of the EPL. It will air Sunday's Liverpool-Manchester United game at Anfield on tape-delay (check local lstings for air time).

Subsequent episodes of the Liverpool program will air on Fox Soccer and other Fox networks.

PRIDE OF GALICIA. KickTV, the You Tube soccer channel, is airing a behind-the-scenes reality show: "We Are Depor," a look at Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna, the pride of Galicia. Episode 2 examines Depor's plans for its return to La Liga and the opening game of the 2012-13 season.

TELEVISION NUMBERS. The three MLS games that aired on Spanish-laguage Galavision Aug. 19-Sept. 2 averaged 108,000 viewers, pushing the season average to 59,000 a game.

DU NORD, THE PODCAST. The du Nord Futbol Show, produced by popular soccer blog Du Nord and hosted by Bruce McGuire and Wes Burdine, is now in its fourth month. The weekly news and analysis show covers MLS, the national team and international soccer. Click here for Episode 12.
