[NORTH CAROLINA-VIRGINIA TECH] No. 14 North Carolina struck for three goals and coasted to a 3-1 victory over unbeaten and untied Virginia Tech Thursday nightat Fetzer Field. The result left No. 1 Florida State as the only team with a perfect record in the NCAA Division I women’s ranks.
 
Carolina got goals from Maria Lubrano, Amber Brooks and Alyssa Rich to win its first ACC game in three outings. It heads into nextThursday’s match against Florida State with a 5-2-2 record.

Carolina scored on its first opportunity in the eighth minute when Brooks redirected RaneePremji’s corner kick to Lubrano, who scored her fourth goal of the season.

Less than four minutes later, Brooks made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Under-20 Women’sWorld Cup champion Kealia Ohai was taken down in the penalty area.

Rich scored on a rebound in the 35th minute for her second goal of the season

Ashley Meier scored late in the first half for the Hokies, who had their chances in the second half.

Crystal Dunn, another Under-20 Women’s World Cup champion, cleared a shot by Ashley Manning off the line.

The Hokies outshot UNC,15-12, and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
