Golden goal keeps Golden Eagles perfect

[MARQUETTE-WISCONSIN] Marquette became the first team in the country to win nine games when the Golden Eagles remained perfect thanks to their 2-1 win over Wisconsin. Senior Andy Huftalin scored the golden goal to win the game in the 108th minute.

Junior Bryan Ciesiulka attempted a shot at the top of the box that settled at the feet of Huftalin, who took one touch to create space before unleashing the game-winner just past the outstretched arms of a diving Chase Rau for his team-high fourth goal of the season.

Sophomore Sebastian Jansson opened the scoring for Marquette with his third goal of the season, but Wisconsin equalized in the 78th minute when Nick Janus got on the end of a cross by Toni Ramadani.

Marquette almost won the game in the 88th minute but Ciesiulka's shot was cleared off the line by a Wisconsin defender.

Marquette continued knocking on the door in overtime, highlighted by a shot by freshman Adam Hermsen that skimmed over the crossbar as time expired in the first overtime period and a diving header by Huftalin in the opening minutes of the second overtime that went just wide of the goal.

The Golden Eagles remain one of three teams, along with High Point and Cornell, with perfect records going into the last weekend of September.
