[MARYLAND-VIRGINIA] No. 3 Virginia had its 10-game unbeaten streak snapped Thursday night as No. 10 Maryland scored three goals over the final 17 minutes for a3-1 come-from-behind victory at Ludwig Field. The win kept the Terrapins in first place in the ACC with a 4-0-1 record, their best start ever in the program’s 26-year history.

“This wasan unbelievable comeback by our kids tonight,” said Maryland coach Jonathan Morgan. “UVA is a great team with a lot of quality individuals. Our team neverwavered at any point, though. Our staff could tell at halftime the girls still believed and were committed to the task.”

Virginia took the lead in the 41st minute on a goal by Kaili Torres and held the advantage for most of the second half before Maryland’s late three-goal rally.

The Terrapins drew even in the 74th minutewhen Olivia Wagner’s free kick from about 40 yards out deflected off a Cavalier defender and went into the opposite side of the net.

Wagnerstruck again 11 minutes later on another free kick, blasting a 20-yard shot into the net for her second goal of the evening.

As the Cavaliers pushed forward looking for a late equalizer,Maryland took advantage of a counter-attack that produced Danielle Hubka’s goal in the 87th minute.

“Maryland is veryopportunistic,” said Virginia coach Steve Swanson. “We had our handle on the game. We had some chances to put them away, or at least go up by twogoals and really put the pressure on them. We let them hang around and they get a freaky goal off a restart that gets them back into it and then we are scrambling. Give Maryland credit, they hung inthere and fought hard, but we need to do a better job of finishing off a game with a late lead.”
