[CONNECTICUT-NOTRE DAME] Seniors Carlos Alvarez and Flo Liu scored to lift No. 2
Connecticut to a 2-1 victory over No. 9 Notre Dame in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,100 fans on Saturday night. With the victory, Connecticut extended its home unbeaten streak to 32 games, the
seventh longest in NCAA history.
Alvarez, last week's Soccer America National Player of the Week, scored the game’s opening goal from the penalty spot and assisted on the second to give him five goals and six assists in the last six games.
Liu made it 2-0 with a shot from the top of the box after Alvarez's shot was blocked in the 36th minute for his first career goal.
“I honestly don’t even remember jogging back to our side of the field," Liu said. "It was the best feeling in the world. It’s such a great feeling and an honor to score a goal in such a huge game for us.”
Notre Dame midfielder Dillon Powers made it 2-1 four minutes after the break with a right-footed shot that curled past Andre Blake and just inside the left post for the first goal UConn has allowed in 439 minutes.
UConn (9-0-1) will hit the road for Big East Blue Division contests against No. 11 Georgetown (10-0-1) on Wednesday and at No. 7 Marquette (10-0-0) on Saturday.
