Perfect Bayern eyes Champions League final return

Last season, Bayern Munich led the Bundesliga by eight points before conceding the title to Borussia Dortmund for the second straight season. This season, Bayern has started with a perfect record after six games, but club director Matthias Sammer criticized the team for needing goals by Luiz Gustavo and Mario Mandzukic in the last 10 minutes to secure a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen last weekend.

"Basically, it was rubbish for a really long time," Sammer said. "During a match, the light has to be on - but today it was only flickering."

On Tuesday, Bayern travels to Belarus to face BATE Borisov in the Champions League. Bayern, which lost last season's Champions League final to Chelsea on a PK tiebreaker, opened with a 2-1 win over Valencia.

"The [Champions League] title is as important as the Bundesliga title," said midfielder Toni Kroos. "If you have been in the final once, you want to get back there again. We have more depth in our squad to be successful in every competition - that includes the Champions League. We will do everything we can to win the Champions League title."
