Rooney says Man. United defense needs to improve

Wayne Rooney says Manchester United can't continue getting away with conceding early goals. Three days after it fell behind Tottenham, 2-0, in the first half and eventually lost, 3-2, United gave up the first goal to tiny Romanian club CFR Cluj but eventually won, 2-1. United has trailed six times this season, though it has come back to win four times.

"It does bother us having to come from behind because we are losing those early goals," Rooney said. "It is not nice and it is something that we have to stop because we cannot afford to keep letting teams get a head start on us, especially in the Champions League because it is difficult to win the game anyway. We have to make sure we are more solid and hopefully we can be in future games."

Rooney started for the first time together with Robin Van Persie and set up both goals from his role playing behind the Dutchman.

"The second goal was fantastic," United coach Alex Ferguson said. "It was a great ball from Wayne. I thought he had hit it too far in front of him. But the speed to get to the ball and his deftness of touch were fantastic."
