Penn State fires on multiple cylinders

[BIG TEN] Name a team in the country that can match Penn State for the number of offensive weapons it has at its disposal? U.S. U-20 national team star Maya Hayes, last year's national leading scorer, was shut down, but freshman Mallory Weber scored two goals in two minutes and Christine Nairn scored her 11th goal of the season as the Nittany Lions won their sixth straight game in Big Ten play with a 5-2 win over Indiana.

Taylor Schram also got into the act, scoring her first goal of the season in her third game back from an injury and U-20 Women's World Cup play off a beautiful ball played to her in front of the net from Emily Hurd, who was credited with her second assist of the day.

Hayes has nine goals in seven games for Penn State, which is 12-2-0 overall. Weber has eight, and Tani Costa has five.

Costa Rican freshman Raquel Rodriguez and Nairn lead the Lions with seven assists apiece. Costa and Hurd have five.

Penn State has won its six Big Ten games by a 22-6 margin.

--  Junior Nkem Ezurike scored both goals to help No. 20 Michigan beat Northwestern, 2-0, on Saturday. The Wolverines (5-0-1 in Big Ten play) tied two program records: unbeaten streak (eight matches) and consecutive road wins (four).
