Chelsea's Cole to Face Club, Country Repercussions Following Twitter Tirade

Chelsea's Ashley Cole looks set to face consequences from both the English Football Association and his club for improper comments the left back made about the FA on Twitter last Friday. According to ESPNFC.com, the England and Chelsea defender's international future could be in doubt, as a result.

Cole used the Twitter hashtag “#BUNCHOFTWATS” in response to the FA disciplinary commission’s report that said there were “considerable doubts” about the evidence Cole had given during teammate John Terry’s racism hearing. The FA report cited differences between the words Cole used to describe the incident between Terry and QPR’s Anton Ferdinand last October during separate interviews, saying Cole’s testimony had “evolved.”

Cole later deleted the tweet and issued an “unreserved” apology, saying: “I was really upset and tweeted my feelings in the heat of the moment.” He now has until 11 am ET Thursday to respond to the FA’s charge.

In addition, the Chelsea defender also faces punishment by his club, Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo confirmed. “We’ve got a social media policy at the club and there’s going to be a disciplinary process -- action -- against the tweet and that’s how I’ll leave it,” the Italian said.
