Falcao the Favorite for Spain's Pichichi?

  • La Marca, Tuesday, October 9, 2012 1:45 PM

It appears as though the race for Spain’s “Pichichi” (top goal scorer) award faces fresh competition this year: Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has joined usual suspects Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish goal scoring charts, with 8 goals each after seven games. Across Europe, the La Liga trio is matched only by Paris Saint Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has recorded 9 goals after eight games in France’s Ligue 1.

As La Marca points out, Atletico’s Falcao has only played in six of his club’s seven games, and has converted the most chances so far, 33 percent, well above both Messi (21 percent) and Ronaldo (18 percent). According to an analysis by the Spanish paper, Falcao scores a goal every 45 minutes, suggesting that the Colombia and Atletico striker will be giving Messi and Ronaldo a run for their money for the Pichichi title this year.
