According to Spanish paper AS, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is contemplating offering former player Roberto Carlos, who retired from the game last summer, atemporary contract to play for Los Merengues while both Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao recover from their respective injuries.

Mourinho is currently facedwith a major problem at left-back, and Roberto Carlos could join the squad immediately as a free agent. The 39-year-old former Brazil international played only a handful of games in the Russian leaguelast season, but he is believed to still be in good physical shape, according to the report.

The Brazilian played for Real Madrid from 1996-2007, winning four La Liga titles and three UEFAChampions League trophies. He currently serves as assistant coach at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Marcelo’s broken metatarsal, sustained while training with Brazil on Monday, willkeep him out on the sidelines for at least three months, while Coentrao’s groin injury, which was suffered during Portugal’s 1-0 defeat against Russia last Friday, could keep him out ofaction for up to four weeks.
