It will come as little surprise that Senegal has been disqualified from the 2013 African Nations Cup after its second-leg tie against Ivory Coast in Dakar on Saturday was abandoned for fanviolence, with just 12 minutes remaining. The Confederation of African Football confirmed that Ivory Coast has been awarded a 2-0 victory and will qualify for the finalsin South Africa in Januarythanks to a 6-2 aggregate win.

The rioting started after Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba converted a penalty in the 78th minute to make the score 2-0.Missiles, stones, bottles, firecrackers were then thrown onto the field; police were eventually forced to use tear gas on the irate Senegal fans.

Senegal’s disqualification ensures thatIvory Coast’s English Premier League stars Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Kolo Toure (Manchester City), Gervinho (Arsenal) and CheickTiote (Newcastle) will be forced to miss club matches in January and possibly into February.
