England’s FA has requested that UEFA punish Serbia to the fullest possible extent following scenes of racism and violence at the end of an Under-21 Euro 2013 qualifier between England andSerbia in Krusevac.

After Connor Wickham grabbed a late winner for the England Under-21s, fights broke out between pockets of Serbian supporters, who poured onto the field, aswell as players and coaching staff from both teams. Danny Rose was shown a red card for his angry response to alleged racial abuse from Serbian supporters.

After the match,an unnamed FA source described the scenes as “the worst I have ever seen at a football match,” adding later: “The FA report will not mince its words about what happened.”

FIFPro, the worldwide representative organization for professional soccer players, echoed the call for severe punishment to be handed out to fans found guilty of violence or racial abuse, urgingregional governing bodies to step up their protection of players.
