[ECNL SPOTLIGHT] Catarina Macario, whose family moved to California from Brazil to give her a better opportunity to excel at soccer, has scored10 goals and notched two assists for the San Diego Surf in four Elite Club National League games this season.

“We know that women’s soccer has no value in Brazil. Because ofthis lack of respect and encouragement, we decided to move here,” said her father, JoseMacario.

Macario was called into a U-14 girls national team camp in August by Jill Ellis, U.S. Soccer’s Director of Women’s Development.

Lastweekend, she scored a hat trick in a 5-1 win over Slammers FC. …
