Bears snap Big Red's 12-game winning streak

[BROWN-CORNELL] No. 15 Brown beat No. 13 Cornell, 2-0, in front of a packed house at Stevenson Field to hand the Big Red its first loss of the season after 12 wins. The Bears improved to 11-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the league to take over the top spot in the Ivy League, while Cornell dropped to 12-1-0 and 3-1-0 in league play.

Sophomore Ben Maurey scored the first goal, his third game-winning goal of the season, less than five minutes into the match off a rebound after Bobby Belair's shot was saved by Big Red goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer.

Brown goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss, who combined four saves, earned his first of the game 22 minutes in when the nation’s leading scorer, Daniel Haber, sent one his way.   Haber led the Cornell offense with a total of eight shots, three of which were on goal.

Cornell, which began the week tied with No. 1 Maryland for the nation's best offense, had its best chance of the game in the 46th minute. Peter Chodas pushed the ball up to top scorer Daniel Haber at the top of the penalty box.  Haber blasted a shot on goal but Brown goalie Sam Kernan-Schloss made a spectacular diving save. The ball rebounded to Tyler Regan, whose shot went directly to Kernan-Schloss.

An own goal with 19 minutes remaining sealed the win.
