[MLS SPOTLIGHT] The inevitable housecleaning at Chivas USA following the ownership restructuring of the MLS club has begun as Jorge Vergara and Angelica Fuentes, now full owners, have named 59-year-old Jose David as president of the
team and 60-year-old Jose Luis Real, a former Chivas Guadalajara coach, to supervise its on-the-field soccer operations. Neither has any executive experience in
MLS.
Chivas USA's announcement made no word about the status of current general manager Jose Domene, who has been rumored to be on his way out for
months.
David, who has resided in the United States for the last 13 years, has worked for a number of Mexican multi-national companies, including Megamex Foods, a subsidiary of Herdez del
Fuerte.
Real, who has been evaluating Chivas USA's soccer operations, will retain his title as Director of Athletic Development for Chivas Guadalajara and continue to reside in
Mexico.
Said David, “Real will supervise all soccer operations for Chivas USA -- including coaching staff, players, academy and player development."
Real led
Guadalajara to the playoffs during the Bicentenario 2010 and the Clausura 2011 seasons. He was also head of Guadalajara’s youth academy.
Chivas USA is last in the Western Conference
with one game to play. Coach Robin Fraser is in his second season as head coach.
