Galaxy Denies Lampard Link

A Los Angeles Galaxy spokesperson on Tuesday refuted reports in England that Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is being pursued by the MLS club. Both the Daily Star and Daily Mail reported that the 34-year-old, seeking regular first-team action, would sign a two-year deal with the Galaxy in a bid to retain his England place for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

However, as the LA Times points out, the Galaxy already has three designated players on its roster in David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan. Having reached the league limit, the club would have to let one of its stars go in order to secure Lampard’s services, which is unlikely to happen.

Last night in Donetsk, the England midfielder re-injured his calf muscle during Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League loss to Shakhtar, which means he will most likely miss the Blues’ top-of-the-standings English Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
