Tsantiris registers 500th career victory

[CONNECTICUT-RUTGERS] Len Tsantiris recorded his 500th career victory with Connecticut's 3-1 win over Rutgers on
Thursday evening in the first round of the Big East Tournament. Tsantiris has compiled a 500-170-50 overall record as a head coach during his 32 years at the helm of the Huskies. He becomes only the
second coach in NCAA women’s soccer history to reach the illustrious milestone and joins North Carolina’s Anson Dorrance in the 500 Club.
During Tsantiris' tenure, UConn has reached 28 NCAA Tournaments and advanced to eight national semifinals and four NCAA Finals. Under Tsantiris, the Huskies have also captured eight BIG
EAST regular season titles and two tournament crowns.
Andrea Plucenik set up Linda Ruutu and Gabrielle Charno to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead at the half.
Rutgers cut the deficit in the 62nd minute as April
Price and Jonelle Filigno combined to find Maura McLaughlin, but sophomore midfielder Riley Houle scored the game’s final goal for the Huskies from 30 yards out in the 81st minute.
UConn (9-7-2) will play at Marquette on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Big East
quarterfinals.
