No. 1 Seminoles fall to Hurricanes in storm

[MIAMI-FLA.-FLORIDA STATE] In a game that was played in tropical storm-like conditions with pelting rain and gusting winds, No. 1 Florida State fell for the second time in a week, losing to Miami (Fla.), 1-0, on Ashley Flinn's goal in the 89th minute. The Seminoles, who were outplayed by the Hurricanes and managed to get off only four shots, are still the top seed in the ACC Tournament, which begins on Sunday.

The game moved up two hours to avoid severe weather conditions expected to hit the Miami area later in the evening courtesy of Hurricane Sandy, but the bad weather came early.
 
“It’s the game of soccer, you have to adjust to all kinds of conditions, you have to adjust to different players, different weather and so on,” said FSU coach Mark Krikorian. “They had to play in the same conditions that we did and the fact of life is that they were better than we were tonight.”
 
Flinn finished a through ball from Tara Schwitter from about 16 yards on the right side of the field, curling a ball around a diving Kelsey Wys and inside the left post.
 
“I though Miami was better than us the entire game,” added Krikorian.  “They created a lot of good chances and Kelsey came up with some very big saves early on.  We can’t rely upon Kelsey to make that many big saves for us.  It was a nice finish by Miami at the end and tonight the better team won.  We will go back and regroup and hopefully be more prepared for Sunday.”
 
The victory for the Hurricanes snapped FSU’s 12-game win streak in the series.
 
Florida State’s lone scoring chance came in the 15th minute when Jamia Fields' bending ball cleared Miami keeper Emily Lillard and was headed for the back of the net but a Miami defender was on the line with a header to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
