Steven Gerrard is expected to make his 100th appearance for England when it faces Sweden in a friendly on Wednesday. Five other players earned 100 England caps:

Goalkeeper Peter Shilton (125 caps, 1970-1990) played at five major tournaments for England and was a member of the team that reached the semifinals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. David Beckham (115 caps, 1996-2009) debuted under Coach Glenn Hoddle and earned his final 16 caps while a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Defender Bobby Moore (108 caps, 1962-1973) captained England to its only major title, lifting the World Cup on home soil in 1966. He died in 1993 at the age of 51 and is commemorated by a statue that stands outside Wembley Stadium. Bobby Charlton (106 caps, 1958-1970) played alongside his elder brother, Jack, in the England team that won the 1966 World Cup and was also a member of the Manchester United team that triumphed in the European Cup two years later.

Billy Wright (105 caps, 1946-1959) was the first player to make 100 appearances for England. He captained England at three FIFA World Cups (1950, 1954 and 1958). He died at age 70 in 1994.
