Falcao Hopes to Stay at Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid’s highly sought-after striker Radamel Falcao put Europe’s top clubs on alert Wednesday when he told a Colombian radio station of his desire to play for a “big” club. "The opportunity of playing in a different league and for a different club will come at the right time,” he said, adding: "I don't stop dreaming; on the contrary, I know at some point I might want to move to a different team.” However, earlier today the Colombian superstar said he has no intention of leaving Atletico -- yet.

“I am very happy at Atletico at this time,” the 26-year-old told L’Equipe. “I am proud to be here and I still have three years to go on my contract. There is some talk about my departure at the end of the season, but right now I am perfectly fine in Madrid. I am one with this club and my only concern is to help get it to the top.”

Falcao may be happy in Madrid, but Atleti officials have repeatedly told reporters that he may be sold against his wishes, because the club is severely in debt. Atletico coach Diego Simeone appears to be resigned to losing his top player at the end of the season: Whatever happens to him makes me happy, because I've known him since he was a kid,” Simeone said. “It is possible that he could leave and it is perfectly normal that the best players in the world have the chance to move when the league finishes. He deserves all the good things that happen to him.”
