PSG Falls at Home Despite Two-Man Advantage

Paris St. Germain, once again missing the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic, lost its second straight home game to nine-man Rennes on Saturday, and has now fallen to third in the Ligue 1 table. Rennes played the final 40 minutes of the game with nine men and was able to hold on for a 2-1 win at the Parc des Princes.

Romain Alessandrini opened the scoring with a fantastic volley early in the game, only for PSG to answer back through Nene eight minutes later. Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil was then sent off for bringing down Jeremy Menez just outside the penalty area, but the host failed to capitalize. Shortly before halftime, PSG conceded again, as Julien Feret’s free-kick made its way past the wall and into the net.

Then, on 50 minutes, Jean Makoun received his second yellow card for a foul on Nene, reducing Rennes to nine men. PSG pressed forward for an equalizer but was twice denied by the crossbar and the post. The win gave Rennes its sixth win in seven matches.
