Wambach leads Female Athlete of the Year nominees

[AWARDS] Abby Wambach, winner of the Female Athlete of the Year award in 2010 and 2011 and five awards altogether, is one of five Olympic gold-medalists up for U.S. Soccer's top award in 2012.

Carli Lloyd (2008) and Hope Solo (2009) are also previous winners. They are joined by first-time nominees Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan.

Goalkeeper Jane Campbell, midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo, defender Crystal Dunn, defender Julie Johnston and forward Kealia Ohai all earned their first nominations for Young Female Athlete of the Year.

All but Campbell played on the 2012 U.S. U-20 Women's World Cup championship team.

Nominees must be age-eligible for any of the youth national teams and can only win the award once in their career.

Fans can vote for finalists in each category on U.S. Soccer's Facebook page throughout the week. The winners will be announced Monday.
