Second-place Borussia Dortmund could cut the deficit at the top of the German Bundesliga to six points with a win at home to Fortuna Dusseldorf later tonight. The reigning champion will also aim to cut the deficit even further at league leader Bayern Munich on Saturday. As Bundesliga.com points out, Dortmund overturned an eight-point deficit against Bayern last season en route to taking the title last season.
Meanwhile, attacking trio Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze, and Marco Reus seem to be coming into form at exactly the right time. Led by Lewandowski, who is joint top of the Bundesliga scoring chart with nine goals, the trio has bagged 18 of Dortmund’s 28 goals so far this season, while creating 12 goals between them.
"We’re not thinking about Bayern yet," Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp asserted ahead of tonight’s clash with Dusseldorf. Clearly, Klopp and his players prefer to stick with the game-by-game strategy that saw Dortmund bounce back so impressively after a difficult start last season. Bayern, which is currently nine points ahead, is away to SC Frieburg tomorrow night before hosting Dortmund in Germany’s “El Clasico” on Saturday.
