[GEORGETOWN-SAN DIEGO] Georgetown went a goal down in the 50th minute but got a break 65 seconds later when San Diego gave up an own goal, and the Hoyaswent on to beat the Toreros, 3-1, in front of a sellout crowd at North Kehoe Field. The win sends Georgetown to its first College Cup in program history.
“This feeling is just awesome,”said Georgetown coach Brian Wiese. “This postseason has been really interesting for this team since we were expected to get there, being the three seed, butwe’ve never done it before. How you manage that dual mentality is really interesting and I’m so proud of them.”
The Toreros got on the board first on Julian Ringhof‘s goal off of a corner kick in the 50th minute. But USD’s lead was short-lived as Steve Neumann‘s long free kick into the area wasflicked backwards by a San Diego defender into the top right corner of the goal.
The Hoyas took the lead in the 72nd minute on another goal off a Neumann free kick. He served it perfectlyto the far corner, where freshman midfielder Melvin Snoh came sliding in and send the ball to the corner of the goal.
“It was nice to get my firstgoal in this atmosphere and in front of this crowd,” said Snoh.
Neumann had a chance to put the game away in the 85th minute but the wide-open shot went.
The third goal camethree minutes later on a counterattack when Gabe Padilla fed Neumann, who one-touched the ball to Andy Riemer, whoseshot ricocheted off the post but back to him to put away.
