Soffner, Finley and Gomez get invites

[MLS COMBINE] Major League Soccer invited 54 NCAA Division I college seniors to participate in the 2013 adidas MLS Player Combine, which will be held Jan. 11-15 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The invitees include goalie Luis Soffner from NCAA Division I champion Indiana and the two senior finalists for the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy, Ryan Finley (Notre Dame) and Jose Gomez (Creighton).

Three players from NCAA Division I runner-up Georgetown -- Tommy Muller, Jimmy Nealis and Ian Christianson -- were invited to the Combine.

The top picks in the 2013 SuperDraft, which will be held Jan. 17 in Indianapolis, are expected to the yet-to-be-signed Generation adidas players.

Seniors who would go high in the draft include former U.S. U-20 midfielder Dillon Powers (Notre Dame), Jamaican forward Ashton Bennett (Coastal Carolina) and midfielder Carlos Alvarez (Connecticut).

Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players, and additional college seniors will be announced in the coming weeks.

Several college seniors are expected to sign homegrown contracts and therefore won't go through the combine/draft process.

A huge omission from this list is two-time All-American Central Defender Marcello Castro Sacred Heart. If the MLS does not get him Europe will!

Another ommission is Ansger Otto from Iona. Just ask Schoenle of West Virginia about him. "To the victor goes the spoils."
