Former German referee Manfred Amerall was found dead in his Munich apartment on Tuesday, with the cause of death still unclear. Amerall had made headlines in 2010 for allegedly sexually harassing another referee. Shortly thereafter, he resigned from his post at the DFB, the German soccer association.
Munich police commissioner Frank Hellwig said that the cause of death was not initially obvious, stating that, “there was no evidence of accident, suicide or foul play.” However, the 65-year-old’s last known contact was a week ago, and his body was found in an “advanced state of decomposition”. Amerall is survived by his wife and two daughters.
"Since Febuary 1, 2010 I haven't lived, I just exist," Amerell was reported as saying in April of this year. "My quality of life is virtually zero, and that is not going to change at all until I die."
