[FACILITIES] The San Rafael (Calif.) City Council voted 3-1 to approve construction of a youth soccer complex that had been opposed by several environmental
groups.
The facility plans include an 86,000-square-foot indoor sports arena and two outdoor fields, one with lights.
The Pacific Sun reported that environmental groups, including the Gallinas Creek Watershed Council, the
Center for Biological Diversity and the Marin Conservation League, oppose the project, saying it could threaten local endangered species such as the clapper rail.
