[CHARITY] Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) leagues and clubs have raised tens of thousands of dollars and tons of goods for Hurricane Sandy
relief.
The Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) held a food drive that yielded more than two tons of food, personal care items and home-cleaning supplies, coats and blankets.
Hauppauge SC raised $15,000 in donations and over 9,000 pounds in non-perishable items for the American Red Cross and Island Harvest.
Deer Park SC, Bay Shore SC, Auburndale SC,
West Babylon Pride and Manorville Starz (who “adopted”their division opponents, the Lindenhurst Lightning) also collected goods and raised money for storm victims.
East Islip
SC, assisted by the neighboring West Islip SC, hosted nearly 70 intramural and travel teams on in their “Soccer Over Sandy” tournament and raised $28,000
The “Staten
Island Soccer Over Sandy” hosted by Breakaway, raised $5,000 for the Staten Island families most affected. Clubs that participated were Notre Dame Academy, Richmondtown, St. John Newman, Silver
Lake and Staten Island United.
SIYSL club Our Lady Help of Christians hosted 65 teams in OLHC’s Playing for Angels tourney and raised $10,000.
