New York ships Lindpere to Chicago

[MLS TRANSACTIONS] The New York Red Bulls' housecleaning continued as they traded Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere to the Chicago Fire for an international roster spot.

Lindpere, who has 83 caps for Estonia, was an iron man for the Red Bulls. He was their MVP in 2010 and played every regular-season game in 2011 and 2012. He scored 15 goals and 18 assists in 97 games.

Lindpere's exit means only four starters from the Red Bulls' 2012 opener at FC Dallas remain: Ryan Meara, Roy Miller, Dax McCarty and Thierry Henry.

"Joel is a versatile, dependable player that has proven himself in MLS,” said Fire President of Soccer Operations Javier Leon in a statement. “He will provide a dynamic presence to our team in 2013 as we look to return to the MLS Cup playoffs.”
