Terry Uses Social Media to Vent Lampard Frustration

John Terry has used Instagram to show his discontent with the way Chelsea has treated outgoing teammate Frank Lampard. The Blues captain posted a photograph of himself and Lampard holding the FA Cup to the photo-sharing site, accompanied by the following comment: "Devastated is an understatement. We should retire the No8 in honour of Lamps." He also added a series of Twitter hashtags to the post, including “hero,” “legend” and “goalmachine.” After Chelsea management got wind of the post, it was immediately deleted.

Terry is upset that Chelsea has refused to offer Lampard a new deal. The 34-year-old’s contract will expire in the summer, paving the way for an expected free transfer to MLS’s Los Angeles Galaxy.

When asked about the incident, Chelsea’s coach Rafael Benitez said he was “surprised” the former England defender would publicly express such strong feelings about a delicate situation. In his capacity as interim coach, Benitez reiterated that he has no say on transfers and contract extensions. "I know that in the next few months, we will maybe be talking about this issue," the Spaniard said. "But for me, [Lampard is] a good professional, a good player, who is doing well and working hard. I cannot do anything else, just bring the best from him."
