Sneijder Completes Galatasaray Switch

Turkish giant Galatasaray has signed Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan for nearly $10 million. The 28-year-old had had reportedly stalled over the move, with reports claiming that he was reluctant to move to Turkey, but Galatasaray confirmed on Monday on its Twitter account that the Dutch international was undergoing a medical in Istanbul and would soon be introduced as its newest signing.

Sneijder had found himself boxed out at Inter, where his high wages had become a problem. The club told him several months ago to either accept a pay cut or leave in January. He had not played for Inter since October.

"It's a big achievement for Sneijder to play at Galatasaray,” club chairman Unal Aysal said, adding that he was particularly pleased with the work of Inter President Massimo Moratti to push the move through. Aysal added that Sneijder plans to end his career at the Turkish club.

"I can't wait to wear the Galatasaray shirt,” Sneijder said. “I know that Turkish people are very passionate about soccer. I heard a lot about Coach Fatih Terim and know his career in Italy well. It will be good to work finally work together.” Sneijder said he will be available for selection for the club’s next game against rival Besiktas.
