Hazard Faces Lengthy Ban for Ball Boy Kick

Public opinion is divided over whether Eden Hazard should face further action from England’s FA for allegedly kicking a ball boy who was holding the ball to waste time during Chelsea’s 2-0 aggregate defeat to Swansea City in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. In fact, some current and former professional players feel that Hazard shouldn’t have been sent off in the first place.

Replays show that 17-year-old ball boy Charlie Morgan was deliberately holding onto the ball to waste time, so Hazard went over and kicked the ball out from under him. However, referee Chris Foy thought Hazard had kicked Morgan in the ribs and not the ball, so he sent him off.

The red card will prompt a three-game ban for Hazard and the English Football Association confirmed on Thursday will review the incident to determine whether that ban should be increased. South Wales police also confirmed that it had spoken with Morgan and his father and that no charges would be pressed against the Chelsea player. Swansea will play Bradford City in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley on February 24.
