Northern Virginia club welcomes Cavalry

[NASL] The new NASL team based in Northern Virginia will be called Virginia Cavalry FC. The name for the club, which will begin play in 2014 and be based in Loudoun County, was chosen from among nearly 2,000 suggestions.

The Cavalry will play at a minor-league baseball ballpark shared with the Louduon Hounds. The park, initially slated for the Kincora development near the Dulles Town Center is now proposed at One Loudoun in Ashburn.

Both Cavalry FC and the Hounds expect to begin playing in 2014.

Virginia, Indianapolis and Ottawa are three clubs slated to begin NASL play in 2014. The New York Cosmos, the league's ninth entrant, will start with the second half of the 2013 season.
