CHIVAS USA. Chivas USA remained unbeaten in preseason with a 3-0 win over the
Colorado Rapids in front of more than 8,000 fans Friday night in Las Vegas. Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola had said the team he put on the field at Sam Boyd
Stadium would be the starting lineup for the season. If so, Chivas USA management has some work to do as five starters are currently not contracted with the club: defenders Mario de Luna and Joaquin Velasquez, midfielders Edgar Mejia and Giovani
Casillas and forward Julio Morales. The latter is a native of San Jose who joined the youth program at Chivas de Guadalajara last year and has played on
Mexico's U-20 national team.
COLUMBUS. The Crew's 3-2 win over Orlando City -- its third in three games at the
Disney Pro Soccer Classic -- was marred by a scary incident in which veteran defender Chad Marshall took a blow to the head and remained face down on the ground
following the first goal scored on a Agustin Viana header in the 7th minute. Marshall was removed from the game but did not appear to have any symptoms of a
concussion."He will continue to be evaluated by our medical staff at this time," the Crew said in a statement. "A determination will be made later.”
FC DALLAS. Dallas brought in French-born Senegalese international Mickael Tavares, started in its 0-0 tie with
Swedish club AIK at the Portland Preseason Tournament. He has spent time at clubs in France, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Germany and England. The 30-year-old midfielder had a short spell at Fulham,
where he did not play a game.
NEW YORK. The Red Bulls promoted former forward John Wolyniec to the positions of reserve team coach and player development coordinator. Wolyniec started his coaching career at Red Bulls Academy following the end of his laying career
in 2010. His 12 years in MLS included seven-plus seasons with New York. He scored in MLS Cup 2008 and finished his career fifth in club history in goals scored in all competitions with 36.
SAN JOSE. Right back Steven Beitashour is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a sports
hernia on Thursday. He was called into the U.S. national team's January camp but left early because of complications from the initial procedure to repair the sports hernia in November.
SEATTLE. Trialists have been coming in and out of the Sounders' camp as they look for help at center back and up front. Former Manchester United Mikael Silvestre is no longer with the team, but fellow Frenchman Djimi Traore, who spent seven seasons at Liverpool, is still
in the picture after two decent outings. Another person, less well known, who has stuck around is Phillip Lund. The 23-year-old Dane helped his cause with the
second goal in Seattle's 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
