Laudrup Apologizes for Liverpool Thrashing

Michael Laudrup apologized to Swansea City’s traveling supporters following Liverpool’s 5-0 rout of the Capital One Cup finalist at Anfield in the only English Premier League game played this past weekend. Laudrup made seven changes to the team that beat Queens Park Rangers 4-1 last weekend at Liberty Stadium, which meant rests for top scorer Michu and captain Ashley Williams, among others.

"It was a nightmare, we got slaughtered and it was awful," Laudrup said. "It could have been seven or eight-nil. We just have to say sorry to the fans who traveled. I am responsible as I pick the team.” The Dane pointed out that he made seven changes against Fulham in December in a game that the Swans won, so the changes were no excuse. "I don't regret making the changes because we have always been competitive when I have switched the team,” he said.

Laudrup suggested that some of his players might have been thinking about next Sunday’s Capital One Cup final against Bradford City at Wembley. "Maybe this was a single accident and the Wembley final was to blame. I hope so anyway,” he said, adding that the cup final would be “the biggest game in Swansea’s history.”
